The 11th annual Tour of Santa Rosa County will mark week three with several active events. “As we move into the month we see more people ready to enjoy the cooler weather and participate in outdoor activities including our Fenner Ride and Run for the Reef 5k & 10k,” said sixth-year tour coordinator Karen Harrell. “These events are fundraisers for great causes and we celebrate those who work so hard for others.” The beauty of the Blackwater River State Forest is one of the attractions of the Fenner McConnell/ Matt Wantz Blackwater Heritage Century Ride – also known as the “Fenner Ride.” Staged Oct. 18, cyclists of all abilities choose the distance they want to complete from 18, 40, 62 and 100-mile segments. The ride is a benefit for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Northwest Florida and the Santa Rosa County Boys and Girls Club located in East Milton. The near-shore reefs are the focus of the sixth annual “Run for the Reef” 5k & 10k and Kid’s One-Mile Fun Run Oct. 18 at Navarre Beach while history plays a part in the Navarre Beach Car, Truck & Bike Show sponsored by the Navarre Area Board of Realtors with proceeds donated to Navarre High School programs. Boo at the Zoo 2014 will be staged two weekends including Oct. 18-19 and Oct. 25-26 at the Gulf Breeze Zoo.
