West Florida Healthcare has named the recipients of the Frist Humanitarian Awards for 2014, announced Brian Baumgardner¬, President and Chief Executive Officer.
The winners were:
Employee Award – Malissa Salas, RN, Family Birthplace
Volunteer Award – Melba Dungan, H2U Volunteers
Physician Award – Joe Allen Dunn, M.D., West Florida Medical Group
Salas is a resident of Molino while Dungan lives in Pensacola and Dr. Dunn resides in Gulf Breeze. This honor places the three winners in competition for the division and potentially the nationwide 2014 Frist Humanitarian Awards, the highest honor an employee, volunteer and physician can earn within HCA, West Florida Healthcare’s parent company. The awards are given each year in recognition of the humanitarian achievements of the late Dr. Thomas F. Frist, Sr., founder of the company.
“We are extremely pleased to recognize Malissa, Melba, and Dr. Dunn as the winners of our local Frist Humanitarian Award competition,” said Baumgardner. “They exemplify the true meaning of the Frist Awards and carry on the tradition of excellence this award signifies."
One employee, one volunteer, and one physician will be selected as winners from each of the company’s acute care and specialty hospitals. Those nominees, including the three from West Florida Healthcare, will go on to compete at their respective division levels, and those selections will compete for the company’s national awards.
“Dr. Dunn, Malissa, and Melba are all recognized at our hospital for the care and compassion they demonstrate to our patients, their coworkers, and others in the community,” continued Baumgardner. “They will certainly represent West Florida Healthcare well in the division award competition.”
