Daily Brew co-host Willie Spears announced on Friday that he’s leaving BlabTV’s morning show to return to coaching. Spears has accepted a job as athletic director and coach at Vernon High School in Washington County. “This is a great opportunity that came up and will allow me and my family to be closer to our home,” said Spears. Vernon is 40 miles north of Panama City, where Spears grew up. “Working with the Brew Crew, especially Carly (Borden) has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life,” said Spears. “Claire, Bryant, Kendall, Madison, Mark, Joe, Lucas and all the others who help on the morning show really do an amazing job. I have been a member of some amazing teams, and this team is now on that list.” Spears auditioned for a spot at BlabTV in October during the station’s Talent Search, hosted at the Saenger Theatre. BlabTV offered Spears a job as a co-host of its new morning show after the audition. “This is a great opportunity that came up for Willie and his family,” said Randy Hammer, president and CEO of Studer Communications, which manages BlabTV. “Of course we will miss Willie, but all of us at the station are happy for him. He’s a born coach and it’s good to see him getting back into teaching.” Quint Studer, owner of Studer Communications, sent Spears an email after Friday’s announcement. “I am so excited for you and your family,” wrote Studer. “God has provided you a special touch with people and the impact you will have in your new role will change lives.” Spears will remain on the show for the next the few months while the station begins a search for his replacement.
