The 2014 tourism season showed that people love Pensacola Beach — a lot. Perhaps the best indicator of just how good the summer of 2014 was for Pensacola Beach’s hotels is Escambia County Tourist Development Tax. Also known as the bed tax, revenues for the past 12 months — Oct. 1, 2013, to Sept. 30, 2014, — hit a record $8.4 million, up from $7.8 million for the same period ending last year. That’s a 7.5 percent increase. Revenue from the bed tax has doubled in the past four years. Santa Rosa County tourism had a record year, too. August bed tax numbers in Santa Rosa were up 33 percent over last year. Eleven months into the fiscal year, bed tax in Santa Rosa brought is $1.61 million; the total for the previous fiscal year was $1.31 million, which was a record year.
