Year in Review: Santa Rosa courthouse fails again

The Santa Rosa County Courthouse needs to be replaced. But voters once again rejected the idea of adding a one-cent sales tax for five years to pay for the $50 million project. The core of the building dates to 1927. It has problems with the heating ventilation and air conditioning system. Santa Rosa Sheriff Wendell Hall has safety concerns about it. It is not ADA-compliant. Read about the building’s woes here. Dealing with those problems won’t go away — and the fixes will only get more expensive. Now county officials are going ot have to regroup and decide how to finance the project. Or take it back to the voters in 2016.
